IRS Extends Health Insurance Exchange Notice Deadline for Employers

The date by which employers must provide their employees a notice under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) about health insurance exchanges (Exchanges) that are required to be created under PPACA has been extended by Departments of Health and Human Services, Treasury, and Labor (Departments).  Employers were originally required to distribute the notice by March 1, 2013.

New guidance issued on January 24, 2013, extends that date indefinitely until new regulations can take effect. It is anticipated that the new distribution date for the notices will be in the late summer or fall of 2013.
