NJ is one of only six states that mandate Temporary Disability Insurance to workers and one of only three states that has Paid Family Leave Insurance. NJ is also on the forefront of requiring employers to provide paid sick days - Jersey City and Newark have both passed ordinances which are effective this year. A bill is pending in the NJ Legislature to make paid sick time a statewide-requirement. In addition to required benefits, employers commonly offer their own paid time off in the form of vacation, sick and personnel time.
