As illegal immigration continues to be a national issue, enforcement of the current laws is an ongoing concern for employers. In 2009, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) launched a new audit initiative whereby ICE will be increasing the number of inspections of hiring records of companies to determine whether or not they are complying with employment eligibility verification laws and regulations.  The number of audits for 2012 is expected to be even greater than previous years as ICE increases its focus on holding employers accountable for their hiring practices and efforts to ensure a legal workforce.

It is crucial that employers ensure that that they are in compliance with recordkeeping requirements and to be educated on performing a self audit of their Form I-9’s to avoid potentially costly penalties.

This is a special opportunity to hear directly from the agency that enforces and audits I-9 compliance.  The program will cover Form I-9 Compliance, including, a detailed overview of I-9 audits and penalty process; how to properly fill out the I-9; IRCA; ICE Investigations and current worksite enforcement policy; ICE IMAGE PROGRAM and other practical tips for employers to avoid costly mistakes.

Speakers will include:
Virginia Matyka, ICE Forensic Auditor
Alan Janda, Special Agent, ICE
