Governor Murphy has signed legislation expanding the New Jersey Family Leave Act (FLA) to allow employees caring for family members during the COVID-19 outbreak up to 12 weeks of job protected leave in a 24-month period. Unlike the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA), which provides for two new emergency paid leave benefits in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to employers with fewer than 500 employees, NJ’s FLA applies to employers with 30 or more employees, provides more options and greater protections.
