The law regarding religious discrimination against employees can be stated in a sentence: employers can't require their employees to violate their religious beliefs as a condition of employment unless the employer can prove that accommodating the employee would impose an undue hardship.

Despite the apparent simplicity of this statement, the law of religious discrimination presents issues different from all other forms of employment discrimination. The law is complex, and, recently, went through a complete transformation with the enactment of the New Jersey Religious Accommodations Act.  Religious discrimination cases are on the rise, as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission reports a near doubling of charges over the past five years.  This one-hour webinar will provide a summary of New Jersey law and an examination of recent case law.
