Congress recently approved a bill which permits employers to store versions of their I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification forms electronically. Under Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) an employer is required to retain I-9 forms for all current employees.Upon termination of employment, I-9 Forms should be retained for:
- Three years after date of hire
- One year after date of termination
Whichever date is later.
This bill also permits the form to be completed and signed electronically.
