**Special HR Alert - USCIS Issues New Form I-9**

Printer-friendly version

Effective March 8, 2013, the USCIS has issued a new version of the Form I-9.  The new document has an expiration date of 3/31/2016.  Some changes to the Form include new fields, reformatting to reduce errors, and revised instructions to both employees and employers.

Employers are instructed to begin using the newly revised Form I-9 (Rev. 03/08/13 N) for all new hires and reverifications, although USCIS has provided a 60-day grace period during which employers may continue to use previously accepted revisions (Rev. 02/02/09 N) and (Rev. 08/07/09 Y) until May 7, 2013.  After this date, only the new Form I-9 (Rev. 03/08/13 N) must be used.
