Premier Course

Compensation plays an essential role in attracting and retaining employees.  This program will provide HR Generalists with information and tools to better understand the concepts of compensation within the overall HR function.

Three Sessions

Sessions are 3-hours each, from 9am to 12pm, both in person and online, and designed to engage participants through examples and relevant exercises, along with "homework" assignments after Sessions 1 & 2. Participants are encouraged to attend all three sessions that will enable them to gain a broad perspective on compensation. 

Session 1

Establishing baseline for understanding compensation in the context of Human Resources functionality

  • Purpose of a compensation program
  • Legislation impacting compensation
  • Basic objectives of compensation
  • The compensation philosophy as a baseline
  • Aligning compensation with mission, vision, and strategy

Session 2 -

Understanding the competitive landscape for compensation, and designing effective base pay programs.

  • Job analysis and job documentation
  • Conducting an external market study
  • Salary structure design
  • Base pay policies and procedures
  • Implementing new processes

Session 3

Introduction to more complex compensation concepts

  • Executive compensation
  • Short- and long-term incentives
  • Sales compensation
  • Compensation in the context of for-profit and not-for-profit organizations


Diana D. Neelman is a Principal and the Executive Vice President of CRI, and has been with the firm for over 23 years.  With over 28 years of collective compensation and human resources experience, Ms. Neelman is responsible for business development and project management in all areas of compensation, consulting to a variety of industries on salary administration, performance management and incentive compensation, with a specific emphasis on executive and general compensation matters within not-for-profit organizations.  Ms. Neelman is also responsible for developing and conducting training programs covering various compensation topics, presenting to both clients and to the external marketplace.  Furthermore, she oversees CRI’s Survey Department, which publishes various compensation studies each year.

HRCI & SHRM CP Credits

Each participant will be eligible to receive 2.75 credits per weekly session.

Parking is available on a first-come first-serve basis.  We request that you only park against the rear-wall of the parking lot and not in the spaces directly in front of the building as those are reserved for tenants.  Street parking is also available but please be mindful of the signs.


The cost of this Premier Course is $300 for EANJ members, non-members $500. Payment must be made via PayPal, Credit Card or check.  Payment due in advance.
